    Hat Sizing

    For a guaranteed, perfect fit, an in-store fitting is best. If an in-store fitting is not possible, here is a how-to guide to self-measure.

      Men: Be sure your hair is cut to your preferred length. 

      Women: Be sure your hair is down, and keep in mind that hair extensions will make a difference in your size. If you plan on wearing hair extensions with your hat, make sure they are in while being measured.

      With a tailor's tape, measure around your head about 1 finger width above your brows and ears.  Don't pull too tight! Be sure it is comfortably around your head and the back is straight across, not drooping down.  Measure in inches down to the 1/16th.  Also, have someone look at the shape of your head from the top to determine if your head is more long oval, or symmetrically round.  

       

          


       

      Head Shapes

      Below you will be able to find the Standard Hat Works head shape chart. Each hat is made and blocked based on the customers head shape. This is to help us ensure that we can make the hat to fit your head as if you were sized in-store. The different photos below are viewed looking down onto your head.

       

      • Long Oval: When looking at your head from the top, it will look longer front to back and more narrow on the sides.
      • If someone with a long oval head shape wears a round oval hat, it may feel too tight front and back with a lot of space on the sides above the ears.

      • Round Oval: When looking at your head from the top, it will look more symmetrically round.
      • If someone with a round oval head shape wears a long oval hat, it may feel too tight on the sides with a lot of space in the front and back. 

      • Extra-Long Oval: In the case of a long oval still leaving you with a lot of space on the sides, and if it is extremely tight in the front and back you may need an extra-long oval. 
      • Extra-Wide Oval: In the case of a round oval still leaving you with a lot of space in the front and back of your head, while the sides are a lot tighter you many need an extra wide oval.
